Lanthenans

Lanthenans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lanthenans is located on 460 m, about 18 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is situated on a small plateau south of the Doubstals and north of Lomont in the extreme northern hills of the Jura.

The area of ​​3.36 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Lanthenans, which is on average 460 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land and is located topographically in the catchment area of the Ruisseau des Combes, but shows no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. In the north and east of the plateau is separated by a hill from the basin of Hyémondans. To the south, the municipality's area extends into the hills of Bermont at the northern foot of the Lomont. With 592 m find the highest mountains of Lanthenans is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Lanthenans are Sourans in the north, Hyémondans in the east, the south and Anteuil Blussans in the West.

History

The canons of the Abbey of Saint -Paul of Besançon founded the Augustinerpriorat Lanthenans of the 11th century. The monks cleared several spots at the northern foot of the Lomont made ​​the land arable and thus ensured for colonization. Together with the Franche -Comté Lanthenans came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Lanthenans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Germain, which originally dates back to the year 1108, was rebuilt in 1786. It has a rich interior from the 17th and 18th centuries, including a ciborium and various relics. From the former priory, two buildings have been preserved.

Population

With 64 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lanthenans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1896 116 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Lanthenans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Blussans after Tournedoz. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 10 km. Further road links exist with Anteuil and Hyémondans.
