Beure

Beure is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Beure is located at 250 m, about 4 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the western edge of the Jura, set back on the left southern side of the Doubs at the mouth of a short side valley, surrounded by the heights of the Jura - edge chain to the south of Fort de Planoise in the west and the Fort de Rosemont in the North.

The area of ​​3.99 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The western and northern boundary runs along the Doubs, which here flows through a broad valley about 1 km to the southwest. From the river, the municipality's area extends southward over the flat Talniederung up on the adjacent heights, namely Côte d' Arguel ( to 460 m) in the south and the Mont des Buis in the east, on the 480 m the highest elevation reached by Beure. The steep slopes are traversed in different places of rock bands and striking projections. The heights are in geological- tectonic respect to the system of law - edge chain. Also, the lower portion of the Ruisseau des Mercureaux belongs to the municipality.

Neighboring communities of Beure are Besançon in the north, Fontain in the east, Arguel, Pugey and Larnod in the south and Avanne - Aveney in the West.

History

Various archaeological finds and the remains of a Roman road traffic indicate that the municipality of Beure was inhabited very early. The place name is derived from the Old High German word bur ( small house, building, apartment ). In the Middle Ages Beure was under the rule Arguel. Since the 15th century it was the site of a blast furnace, in which the mined iron ore was processed in the area. In addition, long time viticulture was operated, the plots belonged to the citizens and the chapter of Besançon. Together with the Franche -Comté Beure came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Hippolyte was built in 1715. The center is characterized by narrow streets and closely built houses ( 17th-19th century ) of the former wine-growing village. In the village is the Musée des Armées Lucien Roy, reminiscent of the fighting in World War II.
