George Connor (racing driver)

Charles George Connor ( born August 16, 1906 in Rialto (California ), USA, † March 28, 2001 in Hesperia ) (California ) was an American race car driver.

Career

George Connor started 1935-1952 in 63 Champ Car races, including 14 times in the 500 miles of Indianapolis. In 1946, he won two Champ Car race at Dayton and Lakewood. In Indianapolis was his best finish a third place in 1949.

Since between 1950 and 1960 included the 500 miles to the world championship of Formula 1, Connor also drove three races in this competition. 1950 and 1952, he came aft, points for the world championship he could not reach.

In 1954 he retired from racing and worked for Mobil Oil as well as an official at the Bonneville Speedway in Utah. With him died in 2001, the last participant in a 500 mile race from Indianapolis before the Second World War.
