George Morrison (ice hockey)

George Harold Morrison (born 24 December 1948 in Toronto, Ontario, † November 12, 2008 in Schenectady, New York ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who during his active career, among others, for the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League as well as Minnesota Fighting Saints, and Calgary Cowboys played in the World Hockey Association.

Career

George Morrison, first played from 1968 to 1970 for the ice hockey team of the University of Denver in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, where the winger completed two successful seasons. During this time he won in 1969 with the University of the Hockey team championship of Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and was repeatedly honored with appointments to the All-Star selection in the league. However, the striker has never been taken into account in an NHL Amateur Draft and signed in late September 1970 as a free agent contract with the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League.

Already in his rookie season, the links established shooter in the squad the Blues, as Morrison ran aground in 73 games of the regular season and scored 25 points. In the following season, both the operating time of the Canadian, as well as its hit rate reduced. When WHA General Player Draft in February 1972, he was selected by the Minnesota Fighting Saints. About a month later gave the St. Louis Blues his NHL rights, together with a second-round vote for the NHL Amateur Draft 1972, the Buffalo Sabres off to commit defenders Chris Evans. Since Morrison however, refused the farm team of the Sabres - with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League - to play him this then suspended until the end of the season. For the 1972/73 season, the striker opted for an engagement with the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the World Hockey Association.

On April 3, 1974, he scored in the game against the Vancouver Blazers in the second third within 43 seconds three matches for the Fighting Saints. By his last goal in this encounter Morrison screwed his tally to 40 goals in the regular season, finishing in seventh place in the league -wide scoring charts. After he had spent another in St. Paul, the Fightning Saints transferred in September 1975 Canadians together with Don Tannahill, the rights to Joe Micheletti and Wally Olds in exchange for John McKenzie and a sum of money in the World Hockey Association with the Calgary Cowboys. After two solid seasons with the Cowboys jersey Morrison finally ended his active career.
