Gérard Lauzier

Gérard Lauzier ( born November 30, 1932 in Marseille, † December 6, 2008 in Paris) was a French filmmaker and author and illustrator of comics and socially critical plays.

Life

Following a philosophy and studied architecture in Paris Lauzier first worked as a draftsman in the studio Perret et Lagneaux.

After a three-month holiday in Brazil, he moved for a few years ( 1956-1964 ) there. He worked here as a caricaturist for the magazine Journal de Bahia.

In 1965 he returned to France and made cartoons for various magazines. 1974, he wrote and drew his first comic Lili Fatal published at Dargaud.

This was followed by further work, mainly for pilots, but also for example for Lui ( Zizi and Peter Panpan ).

In the 1980s he began to write plays and screenplays. Mostly he also directed. His Little Spinner, which is also available as a comic book became known. Lauziers My Father the Hero with Gerard Depardieu in the title role was so successful that the film with the same lead actor was filmed again ( by another director) in Hollywood.

1993 Lauzier won the Grand Prix de la Ville d' Angoulême at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d' Angoulême.
