Born in the time nor French North Africa Gérard Soler came with his parents at a young age to mainland France, where his parents settled in the Île- de -France and he himself played in the youth teams of AS Poissy football. In 1972, he signed a professional contract with FC Sochaux Erstdivisionär; there he developed soon into a winger, the " passionate, yes, doggedly fought [... this ] is an excellent team player of a sunny disposition with a steely Morals and [ on the court ] with the necessary impudence " equipped. In particular, he was also a goal threat, although his main task was to support his colleagues inside forward with passports and templates. During his Erstligajahre he stood in any season in the Top ten league goalscorers; 1975/76 it reached in eleventh (15 Hits) his best finish, in 1973/74 and 1985/86 he was 15 or 11 goals ranked 12th but with a total of - depending on the source - 129 or 132 goals in 428 league matches he belongs to the present day the most successful attackers in the history of the French Division 1

Especially high was his goal tally in his time at Sochaux (67 goals in 162 league games ), in which he also became a national player. Here Gérard Soler has neither there nor can win a title in championship or cup at one of his eight subsequent clubs: two third ( 1975/76 with Sochaux and 1980/81 with the Girondins Bordeaux) and two fourth places ( 1978/79 with AS Monaco in 1981 /82 Bordeaux) in the final league tables and two semi-finals in the Cup (1974 and 1978, each with Sochaux) were the biggest successes. On the other hand, he had a season on the 20th and end relegation with two of his teams: 1985/86 with the SEC Bastia, he had, however, already left during the winter break towards Lille, and in the following season with Stade Rennes.

Except for these clubs has Gérard Soler, who later in his career became a " wanderer ", usually with only one-year commitment - only in Bordeaux and FC Toulouse he remained for more than one season - even with Racing Strasbourg and career degree in the second division at the U.S. Orléans played. In European competitions, he brought it to a total of ten inserts ( three each with Sochaux and Monaco, four for Bordeaux), and also the fact he succeeded - in the UEFA Cup 1981/82, when the Girondins Bordeaux in the second round against Hamburger SV were eliminated - a hit.
