Gerolsbach

Gerolsbach is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district Pfaffenhofen and is located approximately in the geographic center of the city triangle Ingolstadt, Augsburg and Munich.

The municipality is crossed by the same Gerolsbach (also called Small Ilm ), a small left-hand tributary of the River Ilm.

The nearest towns Pfaffenhofen and Schrobenhausen are each 12 km away. Until July 1, 1972 Gerolsbach belonged to the district of Schrobenhausen and was then added to the district Pfaffenhofen in the course of municipal reform in Bavaria.

History

Gerolsbach should be derived from the name of the priest Kerolt, who presided 783-811 of the mother parish. Written Gerolsbach is first mentioned in 10th century records of the monastery Muenchsmuenster.

According to legend, a robber knight named Gerold drove his right unchaste and brutal mischief at the castle Geroldseck. He was passing traders on their way between Augsburg and Regensburg. In the local elections on 2 March 2008 Martin Seitz replaced the longtime incumbent Ries, who did not run. Martin Seitz reached 58.3 % of the votes in the first ballot. The turnout was 81.2 %.

  • County affiliation

Gerolsbach belongs since 1972 to the district Pfaffenhofen. Before the territorial reform the church belonged to the county Schrobenhausen.
