Gheorghe Váczi

Gheorghe Váczi (* August 4, 1922 in Medias, Sibiu county, † October 16, 2006 in Arad ) was a Romanian football player and coach of Hungarian descent. He played a total of 242 times in the Hungarian Nemzeti National Championship, the Austrian Football Bundesliga and the Romanian Divizia A.

Career as a player

Váczi began his career in 1938 in his home town of Medias in Vitrometan in the third- highest division, the Divizia C. After one year at Mureşul Targu Mures, he joined the Hungarian Nemzeti National Championship to Kolozsvári AC. There he made ​​his breakthrough as a striker.

After the end of World War II Váczi moved in 1945, first to Austria Wacker Wien, before a year later returned to Romania and for his old club Ferar Cluj (formerly Kolozsvári AC) ran aground. Váczi already numbered among the most goals in the Divizia A and moved in 1947 to Libertatea Oradea ( Oradea Progresul later ), a Romanian giants. In 1949 he was able to not only win the Romanian championship, but also the top scorer. The latter he could repeat in season 1951.

After five years left Váczi Oradea and joined at the beginning of the season 1953 the league rivals Flamura Roşie Arad. In the two years he played in Arad, he first won the Romanian Cup and a year later the championship. Then he returned to Progresul Oradea, which had just been relegated to the B Divizia. After the immediate resurgence Váczi won the Romanian Cup in 1956 again, but was not used in the final.

In 1958 Váczi Oradea left and moved to ARIESUL Turda in the Divizia C, before the age of 37 returned a year later to his hometown to Gaz Metan Medias. After another season at CFR Copşa Mica he ended his active career in 1961.

National

Váczi came eleven times in the Romanian national team for use, scoring eight goals. He had his debut on October 26, 1947 against Poland.

Career as a coach

From 1956 to 1958 Váczi worked in addition to his role as player of Progresul Oradea also as manager of Flacara Medias. Later he was responsible for several children and youth team at ARIESUL Turda, Gaz Metan Medias, Metalul Copşa Mica, Baia de Aries and Metalul Medias. Here, he discovered and promoted, among others, the later national player Anton Doboş and Dan Anca.
