Giacomo Aragall

Jaume Garriga i Aragall ( born June 6, 1939 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish tenor from Catalonia. Internationally, he is also known as Giacomo Aragall or in the Spanish form of the name Jaime Aragall.

Biography

According to a study singing in Barcelona with Jaime Francisco Puig, the singing teacher by Josep Carreras Jaume Aragall changed with a grant from the Gran Teatre del Liceu to Milan. There he continued his studies at Vladimir Badiali and developed by Italy from his international career as Giacomo Aragall.

International career

In 1963 he won the Verdi Competition in Busseto and in the same year he made his debut in I Lombardi alla prima Crociata at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and it was followed, also in 1963, L' amico Fritz by Mascagni. In 1964 he sang the role of Il Cavaliere in Cardillac by Paul Hindemith and Rodolfo in La Bohème.

From the following season Aragall was in all the major opera houses of the world as a guest. In 1966 he sang in La Scala Romeo in a sensational performance of I Capuleti ei Montecchi by Bellini with Renata Scotto and the young Luciano Pavarotti. Another important role was the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto by Verdi, which led him in 1965 in the Arena of Verona, 1968 in the Royal Opera House and the Metropolitan Opera, and in 1973 in the San Francisco Opera.

The greatest success Aragall in Lucia di Lammermoor, Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, Werther, Faust, Tosca, Manon, Don Carlos, Un ballo in maschera, and Simon Boccanegra.

His repertoire also includes some rare works such as Esclarmonde by Jules Massenet, from an acclaimed recording with Joan Sutherland exists, or Caterina Cornaro by Donizetti with Montserrat Caballé.

Jaume Aragall has received numerous awards and honors, such as the title of a chamber singer at the Vienna State Opera.
