Giampiero Marini

Giampiero " Malik " Marini ( born February 25, 1951 in Lodi, Italy ) is an Italian former football player and coach.

During his active career Marini played as a midfielder, his greatest strength was his game overview. With Italy In 1982 he became world champion.

Playing career

In the club

Giampiero Marini began his career at AC Fanfulla, after which he played in Varese, Reggina Calcio, the U.S. Triestina and finally for Inter Milan, with whom he won the Italian Championship twice and the Coppa Italia in the 1979/80 season. Overall, he completed 256 Serie A matches and scored ten goals.

In the National Team

Giampiero Marini debuted on November 1, 1980 in a 2-0 against Denmark in the national team. In total, he completed 20 international matches, where he managed a goal. Marini's greatest success is to win the World Championship title at the World Championships in Spain in 1982, where he graduated from Italy for five games under coach Enzo Bearzot. His last game in the Squadra Azzurra denied Marini on April 16, 1983 at 0:1 in Romania.

Coaching career

In the final phase of the 1993/94 season was Marini successor Osvaldo Bagnoli as manager of Inter Milan and was the Nerazzurri, despite poor results in the championship preserve just before relegation from Serie A. In the UEFA Cup, however, Marini led the club with two 1-0 wins against the SV Austria Salzburg to win the title. After the season was Ottavio Bianchi Marini's successor as Inter coach.

In the summer of 1997 Giampiero Marini joined his second job as a head coach. He made it right away, the U.S. Cremonese to lead to the rise in the B series. In the following season, he was released after a series of negative results just before Christmas 1998. His successor was unable to prevent relegation to the Serie C1 Cremoneses.
