Gilberto Martínez

Gilberto Martínez Vidal ( born October 1, 1979 in Golfito ) is a Costa Rican football player, who is since the 2013/14 season in the U.S. Lecce under contract.

Career

Gilberto Martínez Vidal began his career in the youth from Deportivo Saprissa. He played with in Nigeria at the Junior World Cup in 1999. After good performances in the club and the youth, he quickly became a fan favorite and nominated for the national team. On September 15, 2002, he then moved to Italy to Brescia Calcio. There he became a mainstay of the defense. After an ankle injury he was awarded in 2006 to the AS Rome. However, during his time there, he never came back to his old form and completed during the loan period not a single game for the Roma. In Brescia, he made his comeback, but one rose from the B series. But he decided to stay despite the second division at Brescia.

After a year Vereinslosigkeit he joined in the summer of 2013, the U.S. Lecce.

National

Martínez finished his international debut on 14 July 2001 at the Copa America in the 1-0 victory over Honduras. He participated with his national team at the FIFA World Cup 2002 and also at the Football World Cup 2006. Previously, he played 60 international matches, but without scoring.
