Giorgio Simonelli

Carlo Giorgio Simonelli ( born November 23, 1901 in Rome, † October 3, 1966 ) was an Italian film director and editor.

Life

After obtaining a diploma in Economics Simonelli worked as a journalist and also wrote film reviews for magazines like " Gente nostra " or " Avvenimento ". In 1928, he staged with Fausto Neroni silent film Maratona and was one of the screenwriters of the first Italian Tonfilmes, Le canzone dell'amore two years later. Simonelli was assistant of Guido Brignone and Gennaro Righelli; From 1934 he was involved in numerous productions of the decade as an editor. Two films he was also responsible for themselves; one of them as Carlo de Lellis. During these years he was responsible for the production company Cines headed by Emilio Cecchi for the official movie magazine of the society.

In 1940 he moved permanently to the director's chair and specialized in its approximately sixty films to comedies, which often had great success with the public, but have been less well reviewed by the critics. Simonelli has worked with all the great comedians of the country, with Totò, Eduardo De Filippo, Nino Taranto, Erminio Macario, Renato Rascel, Ugo Tognazzi, Alberto Sordi and towards the end of his life with the grotesque comedians Franco & Ciccio. Occasionally, he also co -wrote his films.

In 1959, Simonelli with Noi siamo due evasi part of the "Cinema dell'Umorismo a Bordighera ". He is the father of Giovanni Simonelli.
