Giovanni D'Ascenzi

Giovanni D' Ascenzi ( born January 6, 1920 in Valentano, Viterbo Province, Italy, † February 26, 2013 in Monte San Savino, Arezzo Province) was Bishop of Arezzo - Cortona - Sansepolcro.

Life

Giovanni D' Ascenzi received on 19 June 1943 in Montefiascone the priesthood. In 1950 he completed his studies at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Gregorian University. In 1952 he was called by Pope Pius XII. appointed Monsignor. He was until 1975 Director of Coltivatore diretti. He was significantly involved in the Second Vatican Council in the preparation of the Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on October 7, 1975 Bishop of Pitigliano - Sovana. He received his episcopal consecration of the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, Cardinal Sebastiano Baggio, on 7 December of the same year; Co-consecrators were Ismaele Mario Castellano OP, Bishop of Colle di Val d' Elsa and Luigi Boccadoro, Bishop of Viterbo, Tuscania.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 11 April 1983, Bishop of Arezzo, Cortona and Sansepolcro. With the consolidation of these dioceses on 30 September 1986 D' Ascenzi was the first Bishop of Arezzo - Cortona - Sansepolcro.

During his episcopate, Pope John Paul II visited in 1993 in Arezzo, Cortona, La Verna and Camaldoli in the Camaldolese and Marienwallfaht in the years 1995 and 1996.

On June 8, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted his pre- mounted resignation for reasons of age.
