Gipsy.cz

Gipsy.cz is a Czech music group. The band combines elements of American rap music with those of the traditional music of the Czech Roma. The lyrics are written in Czech, English and Romani.

History

Gipsy.cz was founded in 2006 by the successful already as a solo artist rapper Radoslav Banga, also known as Gipsy; Vojta Lavička, an experienced Prímás; and the brothers January Surmaj ( bassist ) and Petr Surmaj (guitarist and accordionist ).

For her debut album in late 2006 posted Romano Hip Hop members of Gipsy.cz received a gold record. The theme song was in 2007 a ​​top 10 hit in the Czech radio charts. It was also voted " Song of the Year " by the readers of Czech music magazine Filter.

Gipsy.cz received a Andel Award, the Czech version of the Grammy Awards, in the category " Discovery of the Year ". The group took on the Czech preselection for the Euro Vision Song Contest 2007 with the song Muloland part, but finished only second place.

In spring 2007 Gipsy.cz went on a European tour through Austria, Great Britain ( inter alia on the Glastonbury Festival, where they played as the first Czech band ), the Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Germany ( Viertelfest in Bremen). Even in East Asia came Gipsy.cz a positive response: In October 2007, the band gave six concerts in the South Korean cities Seoul and Ulsan. The Japanese TV station NHK presented Gipsy.cz before 2007 as part of a documentary series on European culture. On 23 November 2007 Gipsy.cz made ​​an appearance at the Paris nightclub Divan Du Monde.

2008 Gipsy.cz reported back with the new album reprezent. In the run suggested a song of the album, entitled A na si Zaver s námi dejte trochu té Čunárny discussions, as was ridiculed in the text, known for its anti-Roma statements politician Jiří Čunek. To avoid a possible court action, distant Gipsy.cz finally some passages of text. With Benga Beating the band in 2008 again took part in the Czech preliminary decision for the Euro Vision Song Contest, but missed again the qualification.

Jan and Petr Surmaj left Gipsy.cz in January 2009 because they wanted to make music from then on in the style of Gypsy jazz. The remaining band members Radoslav Banga and Vojta Lavička joined a short time later, four young musicians who had all studied at a conservatory.

The public service broadcaster in the Czech Republic (Česká televise ) elected in an internal decision Gipsy.cz to represent the Czech Republic in the Euro Vision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow. The viewers were able to vote during the period 1 to 14 March, 2009 in a vote by text message, the purpose of which song Gipsy.cz compete. The choice was between two titles: Do You Want and Aven Romale. The winning song was Aven Romale with 53 % of votes. Gipsy.cz presented Aven Romale live on March 21, during the award ceremony of the Andel Awards. In July 2009, the band returned to their original occupation. In the same month a music video to the song appeared reprezent in which the recently deceased singer Michael Jackson is shown as an angel. In February and March 2011 Gipsy.cz was under the Karavan festival first concerts in Australia. In April of the same year her third album desperado was released.
