Gmina Przewóz

Przewóz ( German Priebus, Upper Sorbian Přibuz ) is a rural community on the Lusatian Neisse river in the Polish district Zary the Lubusz Voivodeship with the capital of the same name. In Przewóz a border crossing is the Saxon Podrosche.

Geography

The community Przewóz is the southernmost municipality of the district Zary and the Lubusz Voivodeship. The majority of the community, including Przewóz itself, located in the historical Silesia; some of the places south of Przewóz however, lie in the Polish part of Upper Lusatia. A few kilometers south of Przewóz ( Priebus ) is the German village of Klein Priebus.

Neighboring communities of Przewóz are in the district Zary the city Łęknica and the municipalities Trzebiel, Lipinki Łużyckie and Zary - Gmina ( northwest to northeast ), district Żagań the community Wymiarki and the city Gozdnica ( East), in the district of Zgorzelec communities Węgliniec and Pieńsk ( southeast to south) and on the German side in the district Görlitz, the town of Rothenburg / OL and the community Krauschwitz (west).

History

History

Przewóz was originally a Silesian castle on the border of Upper Lusatia that came through the bridge position on the Neisse to prosperity, which led to the colonization of the surrounding areas. The country town was one of the three centers of the Principality of Sagan, to which it was subordinate in its history various royal houses.

On October 1, 1932, the district Sagan, who had emerged from the Principality of about Sagan was dissolved and distributed to the neighboring counties. The city Priebus and the surrounding rural communities were thereby incorporated into the county Rothenburg (Colonel louse. ). Two months later, the city was renamed " Priebus (Silesia ) ".

After the Second World War, the city came under Polish administration and lost its city charter.

Attractions

In addition to the dungeon and the castle from the 13th century and the city wall from the 14th century in Przewóz a church (18th century). Other churches or church ruins stand in the districts Straszów (13th century), Lipna (1807 ) and Piotrów ( 1376 ). There is also a Sorbian hut and several farms.

Traffic

On the rail of the community is connected via the route Przewóz - Jankowa Żagańska to the Polish railway network. From 1908 to 1945 also reversed the narrow-gauge railway Horka -Rothenburg - Priebus, which creates a connection to the lines Berlin- Görlitz and Kohlfurt - Falkenberg in Horka.
