Gökhan Gönül (born 4 January 1985 in Bafra in the province of Samsun, Turkey) is a Turkish footballer who currently stands at Fenerbahce under contract.

Career

Association

Gökhan Gönüls professional career began at Gençlerbirliği Ankara in 2002. For season 2003/ 04 Gençlerbirliği Ankara pushed the defender on loan to the partner club Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ from. There he was from the 3rd league until the rise in the Süper Lig team regular. For the season 2007/ 08 Fenerbahce signed him for a transfer fee in the amount of 1.4 million euros. The transfer took place between Fenerbahçe and Gençlerbirliği Ankara. He signed a four -year contract. On 2 October 2007 Gökhan Gönül against CSKA Moscow completed his first Champions League game and thus be European Cup debut when he came on in the 77th minute Diego Lugano. At the end of his first year with the Turkish giants Fenerbahçe he missed with the Turkish championship. Nevertheless, contented himself with the Turkish Super Cup before the start of the season. His contract with Fenerbahçe he extended early for the season 2009/10 until 31 May 2014 and it includes an uncommitted transfer fee of 15 million euros.

National

Gökhan Gönül was appointed for the last two qualifiers for the 2008 European Championship in the Turkish national team. In his debut for Turkey on 17 November 2007 he gave the assist of the winning goal against Norway.

Due to a broken metatarsal to participate in the UEFA Euro 2008 was doubtful in advance. The nomination for preliminary EM squad therefore had to be canceled during the preparation phase.

On March 29, 2011 at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium Gökhan Gönül scored his first international goal in the qualifying match for Euro 2012 against Austria in a 2-0 draw.
