Dirk Kuijt, Dirk Kuyt [ kœy̆t ] ( born July 22, 1980 in Katwijk ) is a Dutch football player. He is since June 2012 Fenerbahce under contract.

Career

Association

Kuijt began his professional career in 1998 at FC Utrecht, for whom he scored 51 goals to 2003 in 160 Eredivisie games and won the 2003 Dutch Cup. In 2003 he moved to Feyenoord, where he scored 71 goals in 101 games. In the season 2004/2005 he was charged with 29 goals scorer in the Dutch league, finished with Feyenoord but only fourth in the Eredivisie. Kuijt extended his contract at Feyenoord until 2009, reaching with his club the following season the 3rd place in the league.

On 18 August 2006, his former club, Liverpool agreed a transfer fee of 18 million euros for the striker. This makes it the most expensive sale of the club Feyenoord's history. In his new employer Kuijt was equal to a fixed size and played in 34 games his first season in the Premier League, where he scored twelve goals. He also reached the final of the Champions League Liverpool, who lost his team against AC Milan. Kuijt scored the ultimately meaningless score back to 1:2 after 89 minutes of play in this game, his first CL goal.

The following season he played increasingly dependent on the commitment of the Spaniard Fernando Torres as a right winger and came to much less gates. In the Premier League, he met only three times, including two penalties in the Merseyside derby against Everton. In the Champions League he was successful and met five times in eleven games, including in the second round against Inter Milan in the quarter-final against Arsenal and in the semi-final against Chelsea. The finals from the previous year, however, he could not repeat with Liverpool, because you failed to Chelsea in the semi-finals.

During the summer break in 2012 Kuijt moved to Fenerbahce. He signed a three-year contract.

National

Kuijt announced on 3 September 2004 against Liechtenstein (3:0) as a substitute his debut in the Dutch National Team. He quickly had a fixed size and denied during qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, eleven of the twelve qualifying matches for the Oranje.

With the Netherlands, he eventually took part in the 2006 World Cup in Germany and was eliminated in the second round out after a defeat against Portugal. Kuijt came here in three games for use, but remained without a goal.

Also at the European Championships in 2008 he belonged to the squad of the Oranje. Here he was employed in all four games and scored a goal in a 4-1 victory over runners-up France. However, the Netherlands eliminated in the quarter- final against Russia.

With the Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa, he was also in the starting lineup of the " Oranje ". After three wins in the group stage of the Netherlands could also defeat Slovakia, Brazil and Uruguay. The team failed only in the finale at the team of Spain.
