The 1996/97 season was the 43rd season of the Eredivisie, the highest Dutch football league. Champion for the 14th time PSV Eindhoven. Descent had to AZ Alkmaar.
In the Relegation to RKC Waalwijk and NEC Nijmegen prevailed, which thus play in the Eredivisie in 1997/98. For both, this means the league.
