Gold Coast Blue Tongues

The Gold Coast Blue Tongues are a semi-professional Australian Hockey Club from Bundall, Gold Coast, Queensland, which was founded in 2005 and plays in the Australian Ice Hockey League. The complete name is Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues. The sponsor Bartercard is however rarely mentioned.

History

The Blue Tonge, whose mascot is a Blauzungenskinke, which is common on the Gold Coast, were founded in 2005 and in the course of the league's expansion this year with the Central Coast Rhinos in the Australian Ice Hockey League, the top division of the country, received. The former name was Brisbane Blue Tongues, because the team had their games in Boondall, a northern suburb of Brisbane discharged.

From 2005 to 2007, the Blue Tongues were continuously improve from seventh to fifth place at the end of the regular season, but missed the playoffs in each case to the Goodall Cup. The 2008 season ended the team's starting on the seventh and penultimate place. After the 2008 season, the team moved to the about 80 kilometers south away Bundall on the Gold Coast. The management promised by the move better options in the search for sponsors. In addition, many players of Blue Tongues live on the Gold Coast.

Run for the Blue Tongues always professional hockey players from abroad. So were, among others, the Canadian Rob Zamuner, who played 798 games in the National Hockey League, and the Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender Tyrone Garner, who played for the Calgary Flames in the NHL, several times for the Blue Tongues in the AIHL on the ice.
