Golfech

Golfech is a commune with 943 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Tarn -et- Garonne ( 82) in the Midi-Pyrénées region.

Geography

Golfech lies on the Garonne, the Lateral Canal à la Garonne and the river Barguelonne. Through the municipal area, the Bordeaux - Sète railway line and the route leading national 113 (Section Agen - Castelsarrasin ). Close to the motorway A 62 runs (Bordeaux - Toulouse).

Economy

Golfech is known for the nuclear power plant Golfech with two pressurized water reactors, each about 1,300 MW. Due to its location in the valley of the Garonne, include the cooling towers of the power plant to the highest in Europe ( 178.5 m).

Trivia

The excess energy contained in the water of the cooling circuit of the power plant is used to heat the swimming pool, the old people's home and the school of the community.
