Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave

Saint -Nicolas -de- la-Grave is a commune in the Tarn- et- Garonne in the Midi-Pyrénées region and the capital of the eponymous canton of Saint -Nicolas -de- la- Grave.

Geography

The village with 2141 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) is located at the junction of the old province of Gascony, Guyenne and Quercy. From orchards and fields surrounded the village dominates the levels of the Garonne and the Sère. Built on the left bank of the Garonne - just two kilometers from the Tarnmündung - is the community that is served by the A62 motorway, 70 km from Toulouse, 32 km from Agen, 11 kilometers from Castelsarrasin and 8 km from Moissac.

  • The rectangular castle was ( in east -west orientation ) Château Richard Coeur de Lion with four corner towers and three blades from the late 11th, 12th and 13th century in the north of the town for the first time in 1135 in a deed between the abbot William of Moissac ( Guillaume de Moissac ), called the vice - Count Saxet of Lomagne and the Vice - Countess Sybille Auvillar. The north wing is from an earlier era. The east wing or " Englishman wings" ( l' aile des Anglais ) with the " Englishman tower" ( la tour des Anglais ) at the northeast corner is Richard I the Lionheart of England, the namesake of the castle, dedicated.   • The chapel Notre Dame de Pitié or Notre -dame des Sept Douleurs ( Chapel " The Seven Sorrows of Mary " ) replaced its predecessor in 1836, which was destroyed during the revolutionary turmoil of 1793. She was a famous pilgrimage site of seafarers.
  • The Lamothe- Cadillac Museum (Le musée Lamothe- Cadillac ) dedicated to the life of the adventurer Antoine Laumet.
