Governorates of Egypt

The Arab Republic of Egypt in 27 governorates ( Arabic محافظات, DMG muhafazat, singular Arab محافظة, DMG muḥāfaẓa ) divided, each headed by a governor of ministerial rank. The pronounced centralism should gradually be eliminated in favor of greater autonomy at the regional level.

The name of the province, according to the standard ISO 3166-2: encoded EC.

Changes

On 18 April 2008, two new provinces, the provinces of Helwan and as- Sadis min Uktubar, formed in accordance with the presidential decree from the day before. On 14 April 2011, these were reintegrated to al- Qahira al - Giza respectively. The most recent government of Egypt is al - Uqsur, which was created on December 7, 2009.
