Gran Premio della Liberazione

The Gran Premio della Liberation (English: Grand Prix of Liberation) is an Italian bicycle race that is held every April 25 on a round at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome since 1946.

Importance

The name and the date of the race refer to the Italian National Anniversario della Liberation (German: Anniversary of Liberation), to which the Italian Republic celebrates the liberation from fascism in 1945.

Thus, the race, which was reserved for amateurs to 2004 and has been held since the introduction of the single license in 2005 as U23 junior race at UCI category 1.2U, as only professional race regularly broadcast by Italian state television RAI live.

Among the winners of the race, there are numerous drivers who were later in international cycling very successful, about 1985, the eventual winner of the Giro d' Italia and two-time world road champion Gianni Bugno or the winner of Milan - Sanremo in 2011, Mathew Goss, who in 2006 won here.

The length of the race was 138 km in the year 2012. It was held on a circuit of about 6 km. Thus, it is considered as circuit races.

The organizer is the Velo Club Primavera Ciclistica which aligns well as the junior stage race Giro delle Regioni.
