Grand Austrian State Prize

The Grand Austrian State Prize is the highest award, which is awarded by the Republic of Austria once a year to an artist for outstanding achievements. Prerequisite is the Austrian citizenship or permanent residence in Austria. It was created in 1950 by the then Minister of Education Felix Hurdes. In addition to the Grand State Prize discussed here are available in the Republic of Austria, numerous other national awards.

The Grand Austrian State Prize will be awarded to the proposal of the Austrian Art Senate without fixed rotational basis within the fields of architecture, visual arts, literature and music for an artistic life's work. Since 1971 the prize, which was awarded in several categories previously awarded only to a single person per year. Since 2003, he is endowed with 30,000 euros.
