Grant Williams

Grant Williams ( born August 18, 1931 in New York City; † 25 July 1985 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American film actor and operatic tenor. His most famous film role was that of Scott Carey in the science fiction classic The Incredible Shrinking Man C. ( The Incredible Shrinking Man ) of 1957.

Life and work

John Grant Williams, son of Scottish parents, began as a child with acting. After graduating from high school, he first served from 1948 to 1952 as a recruit in the United States Air Force, among others. During the Korean War Discharged as a sergeant he went to Queens College in Flushing, New York, moved to the University of Illinois and finally visited the City College of New York.

Williams was originally a singer and took five long seasons in the New York City Opera on, among other things, in 1959 as a tenor buffo in the world premiere of Hugo Weisgalls Six Characters in Search of an Author. He also sang with the Robert Shaw Chorale and performed as a professional piano player. Increasingly interested in acting, he took acting classes with Lee Strasberg at the famous drama workshop Actors Studio in New York. After a few small roles on Broadway and television, he was discovered by a talent scout in 1954 at the Kraft Television Theatre and Williams signed two years later signed a contract with Universal Pictures. His film debut was in 1956 in the film Red Sundown.

That same year he shot another six movies before him with his seventh film The Incredible Shrinking Man C. ( The Incredible Shrinking Man ) made ​​a breakthrough. Despite good reviews and the success of the film was followed by lackluster roles and Universal Pictures withdrew in 1959 from the contract back. Williams moved to Warner Brothers and appeared in the television series Hawaiian Eye with. Other film and television roles followed, but his fame faded increasingly. His last film role was in 1972 in the movie The Doomsday Machine.

Grant Williams was never married. He died at the age of 53 years from the effects of peritonitis. He was buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery.
