Grigoriy Yegorov

Grigori Aleksandrovich Yegorov (Russian Григорий Александрович Егоров, English transcription Grigoriy Aleksandrovich Yegorov, . Born January 12, 1967 in Shymkent ) is a former Kazakh pole vaulter.

He celebrated his most important international success - starting for the Soviet Union - at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. By winning the bronze medal he completed behind Serhiy Bubka and Radion Gataullin the Soviet triple victory in the pole vault. The three-time Soviet champion Yegorov (outdoor: 1988, 1990 and Hall: 1990 ) has always stood in the shadow of his two successful colleagues.

1989 Yegorov was in The Hague European Indoor champion. In the same year he won at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Budapest, ranked second behind Gataullin. The same result was found at the European Athletics Championships 1990 ( indoor and outdoor air).

After the end of the Soviet Union joined Yegorov internationally for Kazakhstan. At the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Toronto in 1993, he was again second behind Radion Gataullin who competed for Russia in the meantime. In the same year he was beaten in Stuttgart and at the World Championships outdoors by a former teammate, the now for Ukraine Serhiy Bubka antretenden. After all, Yegorov succeeded in the competition with a height of 5.90 m skipped a personal best and, curiously, at the same time also a new Asian record. With the independence of Kazakhstan awareness Yegorov was in fact fallen within the remit of the Asian Athletics Association.

The former European Cup participants took his first medal at an Asian sporting event at the Asian Games in Hiroshima in 1994, where he was second behind his compatriot Igor Potapowitsch. This was followed by several years for adult Yegorov before one last time international appearance came in 2002. He won at the Asian Games in Busan and was third the Track Asia Cup in Colombo. In 2004 he started sixteen years after his first Olympic participation again at the Olympic Games in Athens. He failed, however without a valid attempt in the qualification.

Grigori Yegorov is 1,84 m tall and had a competition weight of 75 kg.
