Großradl until the end of 2014 a municipality with 1420 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Germany in Styria. As part of the Styrian community structure reform, it is merged in 2015 with the communities Aibl, Eibiswald, Pitschgau, St. Oswald whether Eibiswald and Soboth. This is based on the Styrian community structure reform law - StGsrG.

Geography

Location

Großradl located in the southern West Styria on the border with Slovenia. By Radlpass Straße (B 76) the community is connected to the neighboring communities Aibl and Eibiswald and on the Radlpaß to the neighboring Slovenia. Important elevation of the community is the Klement Peak with 1052 meters. Waters in the municipality are the Stammereggbach, Great and Little Latin Bach, Wuggitzbach, Feisternitzbach and Auenbach.

Neighboring communities

History

The area of Großradl lies on the northern slope of the mountain range, run over the way the connections between the southern part of the historic Steiermark ( Lower Styria ) and its northern parts ( Middle and Upper Styria). In the Middle Ages, these roads were backed by several fortifications, of which only small residues are present. These were for wood -to-ground systems, so-called moths, at least partially stone foundations were available.

The plant on the tower builder Kogel in the cadastral Sterglegg is a listed building. It consisted of two tower castles, between which still uneven terrain of the former system are visible.

The cadastral Pongratzen was another tower castle hill, which has the shape of an elliptical truncated cone at Kleinwuggitz. He is about six feet tall, his plateau measures 13 x 15 meters. Two slope levels ( berms ) are still recognizable, as well as remains of a rampart.

A third point at which notes were on a tower castle hill, which was known since about 1888, was demolished in 1976: the then so-called " biter - lock Kogel ". He was in the cadastral Wuggitz on a ridge between the Wuggitzbach and the Latin Bach at settlement Großwuggitz. With the removal of the hill a burnt layer was found. At the point no more clues are visible, even documented answers are not known. Whether it is actually already negotiated a fortification from the Carolingian period, is no longer detectable.

Whether the " courtyard in the Ladein " which was 1318 verlehnt by the Bishop of Seckau to Jacob from the Ladein, was located at one of the three tower castle sites, whether it is another small fort or whether this medieval town was designated the further north at Pfaff Kraner forest castle in the municipality Pitschgau is, is not occupied.

The municipality consists Großradl since 1969. Those days the formerly independent communities Kleinradl and Kornriegl with the cadastral Stammeregg and the east of nearby Auenbaches part of the cadastral Bach wood of the former town Stammeregg were merged to form the new municipality Großradl. The community Kleinradl was in its former form only a year earlier, arose on January 1, 1968, from the communities Feisternitz, Kleinradl and Upper Latin. As early as January 1, 1961, the municipality Sterglegg was united with the former Kornriegl.

Großradl not have its own parish but belongs to the parish Eibiswald. Smaller parts of the community belong to the parish Oberhaag.

The municipality had 2001 1.505 inhabitants according to the census. 99.7 % of the population possess Austrian citizenship. For the Roman Catholic Church to 97.1 % of the population profess, 1.9 % have no religious confession.

Demographics

While the population of 1869-1934 did not change much, sat 1961, the population decline by almost 20 % a between the 30s and the year. Since then, the population fluctuates by about 1,500 people.

Culture and sights

Tourist the community is developed among others by the Ethnographic Trail.

As an observation tower of the publicly accessible bell tower of the church of St. Pongratzen ( Sv Pankracij ) is recommended. At 900 meters above sea level, offers a panoramic view of the West Styria and Slovenia's Drau Valley.

The church with the bell tower is mounted on Slovenian territory. The first mention was already 1490th The current church was built in 1655 in baroque style. The steeple on the border was used as a lookout post since 1935 and has been renovated in 2003 with Austrian and EU funding. In the summer months this belvedere ( free admission) open all day.

Well known are the cross-border events with a bilingual Mass on the 2nd Sunday in May, Whit Monday, July 17, and on the 1st Sunday after July 17, on the 2nd Sunday in August and the 1st Sunday in September.

In the tavern " Glirsch " there is a wine museum, where exhibits give an overview of the tradition of viticulture. Guided tours on request. Opening times: March to December.

Thomas Hammerl (* 1987) from Wuggitz, mastered a variety of musical instruments such as accordion, clarinet, guitar. He is regarded as a super talent and has won several music awards. With his popular group " Oberkrainerbesetzung Power" he was already two times Musikantenstadl.

The tower castle in Sterglegg was the predecessor of the fortified complex at the site of today's castle Eibiswald.

Conservation area

The municipality is located in the conservation area No. 3 " Soboth - Radlpass ". This area is dominated by meadows and forests in a large-scale forest landscape of grassland and small-scale orchards. The protected status would maintain the scenic character of the natural and semi-natural landscape elements as well as the preservation of the landscape as a recreational area for the community. Economy and infrastructure

According to Census of 2001, there are 28 workplaces with 67 employees in the community as well as 540 commuters and 27 commuters. The most important employer is the hotel and restaurant industry and trade. There are 172 agricultural and forestry holdings ( including 39 in the main acquisition ), which together manage 2,497 ha ( 1999).

Policy

Parish council

The community Großradl is politically dominated by the ÖVP. In the local elections in 2005 it reached 63.98 % which meant an increase of 1.18% in a constant state mandate of 10 council seats. The SPÖ could, however, benefit more from the losses of the FPÖ and increased its vote share by 2.97 % to 24.05 %. Thus, the SPÖ could also decrease the Freedom Party a mandate and came up with four council offices. The FPÖ had a loss of 4.15 % and reached 11.97 % accept only one mandate.

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms came into effect on 1 June 2007. Coat Description: In green shield on silver, with a black nine-pronged cartwheel occupied hill a silver tower in half-timbered construction with a tent roof and plank reinforced military platform, two black perforated vertical rectangular windows on the first floor and surrounded by a palisade wall.
