Großweil is a community in the Upper Bavarian district of Garmisch -Partenkirchen and a member of the administrative community Ohlstadt.

Geography
Großweil lies in the Oberland region of the Loisach between Murnau and Kochel. The hiking mountains home garden ( 1,790 m ), and Herzog Stand ( 1,731 m) are not far away.
To Großweil include the districts Großweil, Small Weil, cell and the hamlets Pölten, Star, Gröben and the open air museum at the Glentleiten.
History
Großweil belonged to Rentamt Munich and the Court of Weilheim of the Electorate of Bavaria. Created in 1818 as part of the reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria by the municipality edict today's political community.
Until 1962 there was a slate coal mining in the municipality. An archway made of concrete Murnau Street, built 1917/18 as a shelter for the feed cable car of former lignite mine, reminiscent of that time. During peak periods 1920/21 there were working up to 280 workers in two shifts. The coal was first mined in the open pit and underground later.
The place is home to the Catholic branch church of St. George, which is late Gothic in the core and was the Baroque style. Tower and extension are from the year 1835.
Incorporations
On 1 January 1976, the until then independent municipality Klein Because was incorporated.

Mayor is Manfred Sporer ( CSU / village community ). He was the successor of Franz Xaver Wild (CDU Community ) in 2002.

Above Großweil is the site of the open air museum Glentleiten of Upper Bavaria. It has the task of collecting original buildings of Upper Bavaria and rebuild on the museum grounds and equip.
