Geography

Großweil lies in the Oberland region of the Loisach between Murnau and Kochel. The hiking mountains home garden ( 1,790 m ), and Herzog Stand ( 1,731 m) are not far away.

History

Großweil belonged to Rentamt Munich and the Court of Weilheim of the Electorate of Bavaria. Created in 1818 as part of the reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria by the municipality edict today's political community.

Until 1962 there was a slate coal mining in the municipality.
