Guido Grünheid

Guido Grünheid ( born October 25, 1982 in Jena ) is a German professional basketball player.

Life and career

Grünheids basketball career first began when USV Jena and a short time later at TuS Jena. In 1998 he got a place in the U18 national team. Later he also played in the U20 selection.

For the 2000/2001 season, he completed a dual license with ALBA Berlin and its cooperation partner for youth work TuS Lichterfelde Berlin. In the first two years he played exclusively at Lichterfelde in the second division. From the season 2002/2003 he also played at ALBA Berlin and became German champion and cup winner.

At the 2003 Summer Universiade in Daegu (South Korea ), he retired to a torn ACL in his left knee and was consequently almost a year. Grünheid found from injury back to his old form. In summer 2005, he moved to Rhein Energie Cologne, where he played a good season in 2005/2006, which was rewarded with the first German league title for Cologne. With his achievements, he also managed in the national team for the World Basketball Championship in Japan in 2006. He was in 6 of 9 games used ( a total of 56 minutes) and made the tournament 12 points.

On 4 July 2007 Grünheid signed a contract for the 2007 /08 season with the Hanzevast Capitals of the Netherlands.

Since October 2009, Guido Grünheid plays in Weissenfels for the Central German basketball club. After the descent of the club in 2011 Grünheid moved within the league to the Artland Dragons

Guido Grünheid is portable and flexible in use despite its size of 2.08 m. He usually plays at the small forward / power forward position or even center.
