Guru's Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1

Jazzmatazz is a band project that was initiated by the American rapper Guru.

In Jazzmatazz it was to achieve a fusion of jazz and hip hop. These invited Guru singer N'Dea Davenport as the Brand New Heavies and the French rapper MC Solaar, to the studio and took them with jazz musicians, including trumpeter Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers vibraphonist, guitarist Ronny Jordan and saxophonist Courtney Pine and Branford Marsalis, together. The first album Jazzmatazz, Vol 1 was released on 18 May 1993. It is considered the first successful fusion of musical styles and revolutionized jazz - rap.

The second Jazzmatazz album recorded music after a very similar concept as the first. Maybe you can sense a certain extent on soul music, manifested by the involvement of artists such as Chaka Khan and the group Jamiroquai. Except for some of the above musicians rappers Bahamadia, Kool Keith and Big Shug and trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, saxophonist Kenny Garrett and pianist Ramsey Lewis are represented.

The third plate with the programmatic title Street Soul has an unmistakable harmony of soul and R ' n' B, and is strongly influenced by the larger number of participating Soul artists such as Angie Stone, Erykah Badu, The Roots and the French vocalists Les Nubians. In addition, the jazz musician Herbie Hancock and Isaac Hayes were involved.
