Guru Hargobind

Har Gobind (* 1595 in Waldali at Amritsar, † 1644; Har Govind also ) was the sixth guru of the Sikhs. He was the only son of the fifth Guru, Arjan Dev in 1606, he was after the death of his father Guru.

Har Gobind caused the increasing militarization of the Sikhs. This was on the one hand the result of the martyrdom of Arjun Dev, but also the growth of the rural population (mainly Jats ) had the warlike traditions, was one reason. The most important symbol of the Sikhs, the two swords, which stand for the secular power ( miri ) and the spiritual power ( piri ), was founded by Har Gobind. The Guru stressed the balance between secular and spiritual sphere.
