Hákun Djurhuus

Hákun Djurhuus ( born December 11, 1908 in Tórshavn, † 22 September 1987) was a Faroese politician of the People's Party ( Fólkaflokkurin ).

Hákun Djurhuus 1946-1980 Member of Løgtings, whose chairman 1950-1951, 1951-1956 Minister in the Government of the Faroe Islands, 1957-1960 and 1968-1973 member of the Danish Folketing 1963-1967 and Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands. At the same time he was chairman of the party.

Hákun was the son of Armingard or ARMGARD Maria, born Djurhuus from Tórshavn and Joen Hendrik D. Poulsen from Skúvoy. The brothers Janus Djurhuus and Hans Andrias Djurhuus were his uncle. He was married to Hjørdis, born Kamban. It is noteworthy that Hákun was baptized with the birth name of his mother, which was very unusual at that time.

After the end of his training in 1932 was Djurhuus teacher in Skálabotnur and Innan Glyvur and 1934-1976 teacher in Klaksvík. However, he was released by his political activities most of the time, how Finnbogi Isakson recalled, was the 1950-1960 student in Klaksvík:

" I seem to remember that was nine years in HD on my schedule. This meant Hákun Djurhuus, but he was unfortunately hardly my teacher: Two of the first Danish hours in 2nd grade and one hour in the secondary school. Maybe Hákun Djurhuus had a special position because he was minister 1951-1957 ... "

He was also editor of the newspaper Norðlýsið and made ​​sure that his famous uncle Janus regularly wrote articles for the newspaper.
