Pauli Ellefsen

Joen Pauli Højgaard Ellefsen ( born April 20, 1936 in Miðvágur; † 24 August 2012) was a Faroese politician of the Unionists ( Sambandsflokkurin ). He was Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands 1981-1985.

Pauli Ellefsen was the son of Sofia, born Højgaard from Rituvík and Joen Elias Ellefsen from Miðvágur. He was married with Henni Egholm, born Rasmussen. The couple lived in Hoyvík. He rode from 1954 to 1956 as a fisherman at sea. He then worked as a telecommunications engineer and made a trade school. From 1969 he was state auditor.

Ellefsten in 1974 for the first time, elected to the Parliament of the Faroe Islands, the Løgting. 1974-1990 he was chairman of the unionists who argue for a close relationship between the Faroe Islands to Denmark. 1977-87 and 1988-90, he was one of the two Faroese seats in the Danish Folketing. 1975-76 and 1979, he represented the Faroe Islands in the Nordic Council.
