Andrass Samuelsen

Andrass Samuelsen ( born July 1, 1873 in Haldarsvík, Faroe Islands, † June 30, 1954 in Fuglafjørður ) ( Danish: Andreas Samuelsen ) was a Faroese politician of the Unionists ( Sambandsflokkurin ). He was the first Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands to the 1948 autonomy.

Andrass was the son of Katrina Malena, born Mikkelsen and Sámal Joensen from Haldarsvík. He married Beata Emilia, born Lindenskov from Tórshavn.

1906-1950 Samuelsen was a member of the Faroese Parliament ( Løgting ). 1913-1915 and 1918-1939 he was also a member of the Danish Folketing 1917-1918 and of the local upper house ( county council ). From 1924-1948 Samuelsen was chairman of the Sambandsflokkurin. 1948-1950 he was the first Løgmaður after the abolition of the Office 1816.

His son Georg Lindenskov Samuelsen (1910-1997) was almost 50 years editor of the party newspaper Dimmalætting, and his daughter Lisbeth L. Petersen ( b. 1939 ) one of the first Faroese women in politics.
