Hamilton (South Lanarkshire)

Hamilton ( Scottish Gaelic: Hamaltan ) is a town with 48 546 inhabitants in central Scotland. The city lies at the confluence of the Clyde and Avon, about 20 km south-east of Glasgow. In Hamilton, there is a campus of the University of the West of Scotland and the administrative headquarters of the unitary authority South Lanarkshire. The football club Hamilton Academical plays in the Scottish Premier League, the highest league in Scottish football.
