Hamry (Chrudim District)

Hamry ( German Hammer) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located three kilometers southeast of Hlinsko at the Chrudimka and belongs to Okres Chrudim.

Geography

Hamry is located on the northern edge of the Saarer mountains at the headwaters of the Chrudimka which is dammed above the village in the dam Hamry. In the northeast of the 697 m high Pešava rises.

Neighboring towns are svatojánské Lázně and Blatno in the north, and Jenikov Kameničky in the east, in the southeast Lany, Vortová and Lhoty in the south, Zalíbené the southeast, Studnice in the west and Kouty and Hlinsko in the northwest.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1392 as Přerostlé unkundlich. Owner at the time was Smil Flaška z Pardubice on Richburg.

In the 15th and 16th centuries were in Přerostlé and the northern Hamřík iron hammers in operation. During this flowering period it brought the hammer champion to wealth and privilege. The hammer in Přerostlé continued operating until the 18th century, during which time the settlement was called Přerostlé Hamry. 1785 was a one-class village school.

North of the village dates from the 17th century, the spa svatojánské Lázně, the administered until the beginning of the 19th century medical cures.

Following closure of the hammer hydropower Chrudimka in the 19th century was used for the operation of three water mills, an oil mill and a sawmill. In 1900 Hamry had 580 inhabitants and consisted of 100 houses.

1907 began southeast of the village, the construction of the dam. The 1912 finished building one of the first embankments Bohemia serves the potable water supply of the Regions Hlinsko, Trhová Kamenice and Havlíčkův Brod.
