Hapoel Jerusalem is an Israeli basketball club from Jerusalem. Hapoel currently plays in Ligat ha Al and the Eurocup.

History

The first mention of basketball in connection with Hapoel Jerusalem found 1935. During the fourth Hapoel meeting there was a basketball tournament with teams from Jerusalem, Yehuda, Tel-Aviv and Shomron. Official creation of the basketball department was 1943. Since that time the club took part in tournaments and friendly matches. The first participation in the Israeli championship in 1955, a year after the founding of the highest Israeli league. The first three decades of the team reached any significant successes and often shuttled between the highest and second Israeli league. The last promotion to Hapoel 1986. Since then, the club plays continuously in the highest Israeli league. In the 1990/91 season Hapoel reached for the first time the Israeli playoffs. In the same season the team started for the first time in a European Cup, the Korać Cup. In the 90s Hapoel won two Cup victories in 1996 and 1997 his first national title. The opponent in the final two games was called Maccabi Tel- Aviv. After Hapoel in the following years was a regular participant of various European cup competitions and 2002 failed in the semifinals of the Saporta Cup, came in 2004 with the ULEB Cup, the first international title.
