Hédi Baccouche

Hedi Baccouche ( born January 15, 1930 in Sousse ) is a Tunisian politician and former Prime Minister of Tunisia.

From 1981 to 1982, Baccouche ambassador to the Holy See, and later ambassador to Algeria. Baccouche was initially 1987 Minister of Social Affairs.

On November 7, 1987, he was the successor of Zine el- Abidine Ben Ali, who succeeded by Habib Bourguiba as president, new prime minister. On 27 September 1989 Hamed Karoui followed him as Prime Minister, as Baccouche from the perspective of President Ben Ali took too much power to complete.

Baccouche heard in addition to the central committee of the ruling party " Democratic Constitutional Démocratique " (RCD).

On 28 May 2005 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Sousse.

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter A Common Word between Us and You (English A Common Word Between Us and You), the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (English " Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... " ) submitted (13 October 2007).
