This is the Low German pet form of Henrike, the masculine form is Heinrich.

The name comes from the Old High German and is composed of hagan (ie yard symbolic of protection) and rihi (ie rich, powerful ) together, so stands for " Lord ( in ) the house". Another translation is " rich protector ".

Dissemination

The name Heike was at the beginning of the 20th century, hardly used in Germany. In the 1930s its popularity rapidly increased greatly, the name was in 1944 among the top ten female name.
