Helheim (Band)

Helheim (not to be confused with the eponymous Norwegian NSBM-/Industrial-Metal-Band who also appeared under the name of The Helheim Society) is a Norwegian band, which is one of the founders of the Norwegian Viking metal movement.

History

The band was founded in 1992 by V'gandr and H'grimnir in Bergen. A short time later Hrymr rose as a drummer with one, and Helheim played some festivals in Bergen to gather live experience. In mid-1993 the band came Nidhogg and the decision was taken to include a demo. Thus in 1993 Helheim was published in the autumn. Due to the fact that the band felt the material to be too bad, the demo was never spread beyond the borders of Norway addition. They began to write new material and in the meantime left the band again Nidhogg. 1994 NIDR ok Nordr liggr Helvegr was published, thereby enabling the German label Solistitium Records (now Millenium Records) became aware of Helheim, and took them under contract for two albums. The band recorded their debut Jormundgand 1995 in the studio of the Grieg Hall in Norway. In 1996 he was the first European tour which the band immediately began work on their second album Av Norrøn ätt. This was taken up again in the Grieg Hall.

After the record label Massacre Records had lost interest in the band, this looked to be a fairly new because V'gandr " the bands [ are meant Helheim and Aeternus ] and label [ Dark Essence Records ] do not mix " wanted; but since the rest of the staff of Dark Essence Records and members of both bands had a strong interest in a contract, he agreed to end, but declined to participate in the contract negotiations, since he "did not stand on both sides of the fence " wanted. About Dark Essence Records was released in 2006 The Journeys and the Experiences of Death, which was not included in the Grieg Hall studio, but in the Conclave.

Style

First, Helheim was based on the Norwegian Black Metal, have been used are blast beats and high screeching vocals, but also genre foreign elements such as jaw harp, trumpet and female vocals. The production corresponded to the typical sound of the Grieg Hall Studios, where Mayhem, Darkthrone and Burzum recordings albums. On later albums, the music was sluggish and complex. Repeated comparisons were drawn with Enslaved.
