Henry Casimir I of Nassau-Dietz

Henry Casimir I ( * January 31, 1612 in Arnhem, † July 13, 1640 in Hulst ) was Count of Nassau- Diez and governor of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe.

Henry Casimir was the eldest son of Ernst Casimir of Nassau- Diez (1573-1632) and Sophie Hedwig of Brunswick- Lüneburg ( 1592-1642 ).

Henry Casimir I was elected on August 3, 1619 coadjutor of Deutschordensballei Utrecht and appointed April 3, 1620 to Landkomtur. At this time, Henry Casimir I. only eight years old. Therefore, his father and guardian Ernst Casimir I of Nassau- Dietz took office until the age of majority of the Son. Since August 11, 1630 Henry Casimir I finally came personally as Landkomtur in appearance.

After the death of father in 1632 was Henry Casimir I. Count of Nassau -Diez and succeeded him as governor of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe. Nassau -Diez included then the counties Katzenelenbogen, Vianden, Diez and Spiegelberg, the rule Bielenstein and the barony Liesveld.

On July 12, 1640 Henry Casimir I was wounded in the Battle of Hulst, and died the following day from his injuries. He was buried in Leeuwarden.
