Henry Hermansen

Henry Arne Hermansen ( born April 13, 1921 in Lunner, Oppland, † January 18, 1997 in Oslo) was a Norwegian cross country skier and biathlete.

Henry Hermansen belonged to the club IL i BUL to ( i Idrottslaget Bondeungdomslaget ) in Oslo. End of the 1940s and until the mid- 1950s he was active only as long runners. The first medal at a national championship he won in 1949 with Bronze over 17 km. The Norwegian Association nominated him the next year for the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lake Placid, where he won the bronze medal in the 4 x 10 km relay with his squadron mate Martin Stokken, Eilert Dahl and Kristian Bjørn. 1950 and 1951 he was Norwegian champion in each case with the cross-country season his club, 1954 was the third season. Also in 1951 he won a bronze medal on the 17 km distance. In the late fifties he turned to the emerging sport of biathlon to 1958 was again fifth in the state championships in cross country season, and in 1959 the first Norwegian champion in singles in biathlon 20 km. He participated in the second Biathlon World Cup 1959 and there he reached in the single ten, finishing with Knut Wold and Ivar Skogsrud third at the time still unofficially discharged relay competition. The same ranking he reached with the 1962 season, this time with Jon Olav Istad and Jordet, the individual competition he finished as the Fourteenth. Also in 1962, he worked at the Norwegian Championships third in the individual behind his two colleagues from the World Cup season.

At the premiere of Biathlon at the Winter Olympics in 1960 in Squaw Valley Hermansen was part of the Norwegian team. He was the oldest participant in the 20 km Individual, which was played as the only competition, only Adolf Wiklund was also already 38 years old. Although he scored as a former cross-country skiers only the zwanzigstbeste maturity, he could be placed in tenth due to its relatively good result with four shooting errors. After the second shooting he was even second and up to the fourth shooting Hermansen had hit all the targets and still lying on the bronze medal before he fell back after the four misses with eight penalty minutes.
