Henry R. Storrs

Henry Randolph Storrs (* September 3, 1787 in Middletown, Connecticut; † July 29, 1837 in New Haven, Connecticut) was an American lawyer and politician. He represented 1817-1821 and 1823-1831 the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman William L. Storrs was his brother.

Career

Henry Randolph Storrs was born about four years after the War of Independence in Middletown and grew up there. In 1804 he graduated from Yale College. He studied law. His admission to the bar he received in 1807 and then began practicing in Champion in Jefferson County. Later he worked in Whitesboro and Utica as a lawyer.

Politically he belonged at that time to the Federalist Party. In the congressional elections of 1816 for the 15th Congress Storrs was in the 14th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Alfred Conkling on March 4, 1817. After a successful re-election in 1820, he suffered a defeat and retired after the March 3, 1821 from the Congress of. As Adams - Clay Federalist, he ran in 1822 in the 16th Election District of New York for the 18th Congress. After a successful election, he entered on March 4, 1823, to succeed Thomas R. Gold. In 1824 he was elected as a member of the Adams faction in the 19th Congress and in 1826 in the 20th Congress. As a member of the anti - Jacksonian Group he was elected in 1828 in the 21th Congress. He then retired after March 3, 1831 from the Congress. As a Congressman he had presided over the Committee on Naval Affairs ( 19th Congress ). The U.S. House of Representatives appointed him in 1830 to one of the conductors, who led impeachment proceedings ( impeachment proceedings ) against James H. Peck, a federal judge in the District of Missouri.

Between 1825 and 1829 he was chief judge ( presiding judge ) at the Court of Common Pleas in Oneida County. He then moved to New York City, where he practiced as a lawyer again. On July 29, 1837, he died in New Haven and was then buried in the Grove Street Cemetery.
