Henties Bay ( also still partly German and Afrikaans Henties Bay Hentiesbaai ) is located on the Atlantic Ocean municipality in the district Arandis in the Erongo region in Namibia. It lies on the main road C34 about 70 kilometers north of Swakopmund.

Originally a purely a holiday within the National Recreation Area west coast, the city became a popular place to live. Today live in Henties Bay 4800 permanent residents, including about 500 squatter; population growth is high. To the Christmas and Neujahrsszeit the population, however, can at least triple.

History

The town grew in the 1950s, a collection of shacks on the southern end of the estuary of the Omaruru (which is why the place is also known as Omarurumund ); this was built by a Major Henty van der Merwe, who came here a year ago to indulge his passion for fishing. Gradually, word got around and out of the shack to Hentys bay was about a campsite gradually the present town, which now only has a lighthouse on everything that makes a Namibian town. The water supply is via the Omaruru Delta Dam.

Development
