Highfields (Queensland)

Highfields is a small town just north of Toowoomba in Queensland, Australia. It lies on the New England Highway in the Great Dividing Range, just north of Mount Kynoch and is a satellite city Toowoombas in which many of the inhabitants are employed.

Community

The Highfields State School is situated in the city and is one of two primary schools. The Toowoomba Christian College is the only high school in Highfields and you are both a prep and a Primary School connected.

A small collection of shops can be found at the exit of the New England Highway on the Highfields Road, among which are another bakery, a delicatessen, a hairdresser, a real estate broker and a car spare parts shop. On the New England Highway even a motel with a restaurant.

A shopping center opened in 2003 includes a number of shops, including a business tool for the Thrifty chain - link, a baked goods business of Brumby 's Bakeries and a supermarket by Woolworths and a restaurant. There is also a cafe, a butcher and a shop for fruits and vegetables, which also offers fruit juices, salads and sandwiches.

Finally, in Highfields yet another shopping center which was renovated and redecorated in 2007. Here are several banks, a supermarket chain Coles, various retail shops, a newsagent and a hairdresser.

The place also has a cultural center with a hall for meetings and performances. The complex also includes a swimming pool, volleyball and basketball hall playing fields and a sports hall. Adjacent is the municipal library and opposite the main facility for skateboarders.

Highfields is home to a football club, the Highfields FC.

Attractions

The Highfields Pioneer Historical Village is an outdoor museum with a collection of historic machines. There is a fully functioning blacksmith, a historic chapel was constructed in Toowoomba 1928 Dennis Fire Engine, a 1903 -built prison with two holding cells, some automobiles from the Ford type T and a collection of antique radio equipment and household appliances.

The 1989 scale from the local couple Ken and Mary Davidson Davidson Arboretum has around 500 different varieties of plants. It has an area of approximately 2.5 hectares. A little more than an acre of it open to the public.
