High Hameln is a municipality in the district of Peine in Lower Saxony ( Germany ). The name Hohenhameln is probably due to " High Hagen ," which means fenced land with a high hedge.

History

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the municipalities Bierbergen, Bründeln, Clauen, Equord, Harber were incorporated (until then in the district of Burgdorf ), Mehrum, Ohlum, Rötzum, Soßmar and Stedum.

Economy and infrastructure

In High Hamelin district Clauen a great and one of the last sugar factories of the North Zucker AG is established. The municipality Hohenhameln includes the coal power plant Mehrum. In place Hohenhameln even the traditional company Steinbach resides with his headquarters, which for the Christmas and other seasons produced by hand all kinds of Holzgalanteriewaren (including nutcrackers, smoking, music boxes, etc.). The wood for this comes mainly from the nahegelegenem Hämelerwald, as so-called stained wood (wood of deciduous trees ) is preferred.
