Ridge of the High arc
The High Arch (often outdated and High Arch ) is an 8 km long mountain range in the Bavarian Forest.
It is located in the Upper Palatinate in the district of Cham to almost equally between the municipalities of municipalities Neukirchen b. Blut, Rimbach and Eschlkam between Furth im Wald and Kötzting. Its territory covers ( v.NW.n.SO. ) the peaks Postal ( 976 m), bears Bars ( 1,017 m ), Eckstein ( 1073 m ), black bar ( 1079 m) and maple bar (1050 m). At the Postal transmitting equipment is installed, the black bars a former telecommunications tower of the Air Force.
There is a ski resort on the northern slopes of the maple bar. A double chair lift with 1.36 km in length overcomes a difference in altitude of 393 m in 15 minutes and leads up to the summit level.
Mountain Name
The mountain name " high arch " does not come after research of local historian Ludwig Baumann from Kötzting - as is often assumed - from the morphologically - scenic form of a " high arch ", but by the Counts of Bogen, which in 1190 a castle on the Postal have built ( today's location of the BR- transmitter ). The builder, Albert III. of arc, was banned in 1193, so that the remote castle remained unfinished and probably fell into disrepair. There are still remains of a moat receive. Thus, the name " High Arch " to be understood as the higher ground of the castle -bent (as opposed to the lower castle with bow ). A parallel name development can be found in " Hohenstaufen " ( high seat of the Staufer ), " Hohenschwangau " ( Guelph ) and " Hohenzollern ". 1242 was the high arch of the Wittelsbach family.
Geography
Apart from the lower southwestern slopes of the High Arch geologically in the Bavarian Forest a special place. It forms the southern end of a Gabbroamphibolitmassivs in the immediate vicinity of the Bohemian Massif, the gabbros were almost completely converted into amphibolites.

The forest cover consists mostly of spruce forests, but especially in the state forest also extensive beech forests and mixed beech forests are present. The Hepatica and Spring Pea have here their only occurrence in the rear Bavarian Forest.
Telecommunications tower
A co-located here NATO listening post, the so-called telecommunications sector F, was decommissioned in 2004. In addition to members of the Bundeswehr French units were stationed there until 1992, U.S. and until 1994. It consisted of two towers and a complex passive receiving and monitoring system. In the new use of a museum area with views café and adjoining youth field should be created. Owner of the plant is the high arch Mountain Resort GmbH.
At the foot of the Hohen Bogen is a sports and leisure center. In the summer is possible from the middle station of the cable car a departure with the summer toboggan run. There is also a skate and fun park and a grass -kart departure. In winter, the winter toboggan run is offered alongside classic skiing and snowboarding. On the 976 -meter high castle stables at the Bayerischer Rundfunk Furth im Wald operates the transmitter high arch. It is used for distribution of FM, DAB and TV programs and as the site of directional antennas and mobile.
The treasure in Hohen Bogen
Bernard Grueber and Adalbert Müller describe in their book The Bavarian Forest ( 1846) detail a saga about the treasure that is kept in a copper brewing vats below the castle stables.
