Holding Back the Years is a song by Simply Red in 1985, which was written by Mick Hucknall and Neil Moss.
History
At the age of 17 years, Mick Hucknall wrote the rough draft of the song. In the text Hucknall processed his past, ( that his mother left him and his father when he was three years old, and his school years ).
In 1982 he worked with Neil Moss the ballad and tried with his band Frantic Elevators record a demo, which did not succeed.
In 1984, Hucknall with his band Simply Red Holding Back the Years for album Picture Book, and posted so 1985/1986 a great success. The publication took place on 4 November 1985.

Music Video
The music video was filmed in the British seaside town of Whitby. In the plot of the video Mick Hucknall lived through his childhood and his youth, while also cutscenes are displayed.
