Holumnica

Holumnica ( Hollomnitz German, Hungarian Hollólomnic ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with 876 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Kežmarok, a part of the Prešov Region and is counted to the traditional landscape Zips.

Geography

The municipality is located on the northwest slope of the Levočské mountains in the valley of the brook Holumnický Brook, which flows below the village in the Poprad. The center is located at an altitude of 593 m nm and is four kilometers from Podolínec and 17 kilometers away from Kežmarok.

Neighboring municipalities are Podolínec in the north, Lomnička in the east, and Jakubany Ihľany the southeast, Jurské in the south, Bušovce the southwest, Podhorany in the west and Toporec in the northwest.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1293 as Nova Lompnicha writing; other historical names are Noglumnicha ( 1329 ), Magna Lomnitz ( 1361 ), Holemnicz (1773 ), Polomnitz (1786 ) and Holomnica (1808 ). The village was owned by the gender Berzeviczy, Újházy and Görgey. 1828 were counted 119 houses and 866 inhabitants, who were employed in agriculture, linen weaving and as carters.

Until 1918, belonged to the county located in the Zips place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today. Before the end of the Second World War, the majority of the German population was evacuated.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Holumnica 872 inhabitants, of whom 622 Slovaks, 165 Roma and six German. 79 inhabitants did not know. 701 inhabitants belonged to the Roman Catholic Church, ten inhabitants of the Greek Catholic Church, three residents for evangelistic church, 61 inhabitants to the Evangelical Church AC, 12 residents of the Seventh- day Adventist Church, six inhabitants of the Greek Catholic Church and a resident the United Methodist Church. Four residents were non-denominational and 87 inhabitants, the denomination has not been determined.
