Horní Město

Horni Mesto ( German mountain city) is a municipality with 1009 inhabitants ( 1 January 2004) in the Czech Republic. It is located in the headwaters of the river Huntava 5 km southwest of Rýmařov at the foot of the mountains in Altvater 550m asl

History

The town was founded as a mining settlement on a rich silver finding place in the year 1351. 1398 was followed by the neighboring settlement Hangstein, later called Hangstein. In 1580 Mountain City were awarded by Emperor Rudolf II Priviliegen an imperial free mountain town.

On 1 December 1930, the city mountain town of 1296 inhabitants, on 17 May 1939 were 1251 and on May 22, 1947 674 inhabitants. The Germans were expropriated in 1945 and sold.

Attractions

  • The Church of St. Mary Magdalene was built in 1611 and designed in 1690 by the painter Weintritt with valuable paintings.

Community structure

At the community Horni Mesto include the districts Dobřečov ( Doberseik ) Rešov ( Reschen ) Skály ( Hangstein ) and Stříbrné Hory ( Neufang ) with the 1965 settlement resolved Ferdinandov ( Ferdinandsthal ).
